A free truck driver toolkit giving professional drivers and their employers advice on managing risk at work has been launched by Driving for Better Business (DfBB) and Transport for West Midlands (TfWM).
DfBB said it was developed after drivers and operators requested guidance that they could read quickly and act on. It sits alongside similar toolkits designed for van drivers and car drivers.
The truck driver toolkit follows the working day of a professional driver across five sections: licences, fitness to drive, driving safely, driver safety and smarter driving.
More than 520,000 trucks are licensed on UK roads and in 2024, trucks were involved in 201 fatal collisions.
Mark Cartwright, head of commercial vehicle incident prevention at National Highways and DfBB, said: “Safety cannot be an afterthought. It has to sit at the heart of how we plan, drive and manage our fleets.”
Mat MacDonald, road safety commissioner for the West Midlands Combined Authority, said: “Truck drivers are the backbone of our economy.
“That’s why TfWM are delighted to partner with DfBB on this truck driver toolkit.”
