XPO Transport Solutions UK has appeared in court today (12 May) after a worker was seriously injured by a vending machine at Dungeness B Power Station.

The company is charged with an alleged breach of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 Section 2(1) following the incident at the nuclear site in Kent.

The charges were made following an investigation by the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), the UK’s independent nuclear regulator.

Margate Magistrates’ Court heard that employees from the Northamptonshire-based logistics company lost control of a vending machine, which fell onto XPO employee Paul Stanley, while it was being moved down a staircase.

The incident, which happened in March 2024, left Stanley with serious leg injuries and requiring hospital treatment.

XPO Transport Solutions UK has been charged with failing to discharge its general health, safety and welfare duty to an employee.

ONR has confirmed the incident was a conventional health and safety matter, and there was no radiological risk to the public.

As legal proceedings are active, ONR added it is unable to provide further comment on the case at this time.
