The reappointment of Jonathan Reynolds as business secretary in Andy Burnham’s new cabinet has been welcomed by Logistics UK, which said he was someone who understood the critical role of logistics.
Reynolds held the business and trade brief from July 2024 to September 2025 and the business group said his leadership of the 10-year Modern Industrial Strategy highlighted the vital contribution the industry made to local economies and job creation.
He inherits a significantly enlarged department, with the department for science, innovation and technology abolished and most of its responsibilities now falling within Reynolds’ responsibilities.
Logistics UK said it looked forward to working closely with him again:
“With the government focused on boosting productivity and strengthening UK industry, recognition of logistics’ importance as a foundation of the economy will be critical to delivering growth in every region and nation,” said CE Ben Fletcher.
“Mr Reynolds understands that the choices ahead of us are not between services and industry, but about how both of them together can turbocharge growth – a stronger logistics capability can be the catalyst the economy needs.”
He added: “Over the past two years we have worked closely with the government to ensure that the role logistics plays in driving industry forward is clearly recognised.
“Jonathan Reynolds’ reappointment is a positive sign that this recognition will continue, and we stand ready to work with government to deliver the long-term prosperity and higher living standards we all want to see.”
Heidi Alexander remains transport secretary, a role she has held since November 2024.
