Gist turned in a strong financial performance last year, with turnover and profits up at the M&S-owned transport and logistics company.
Results for the year ending 29 March 2025 showed revenue increased by 6.5% to £59.5m and pre-tax profit jumped to £25.5m, an increase of 28.9% from £22.2m in 2024.
Operating profit was up 27% to £25.5m.
The company provides supply chain services to customers in three market sectors: retail distribution, primary and international.
The UK made up by far the bulk of Gist’s turnover, with £59m generated in this country and the remainder in Europe, Asia and Africa.
Gist said the 52-week trading period had seen the balance of business activity within the haulier continuing to shift towards work carried out for the Marks and Spencer group of companies and it had benefited from the operating efficiencies that had arisen from the shift.
M&S Group acquired Gist, which was the principal contract logistics provider to M&S Food, in 2002 for £230m.
At the time it said the move accelerated its plan to modernise the food supply chain network.
