Gist’s chief executive Nick Hay has stepped down from his role in a tenure he described on social media as “short and sweet”.
Hay took up the position in July 2023, a year after Marks and Spencer Group (M&S) announced it was acquiring the business from a subsidiary of The BOC Group to modernise its food supply distribution.
Hay, who is a former CEO of Fowler Welch and has held several non-executive roles, including at tech start-up Connected2, ACS&T Logistics and Chill-Chain, said: “It was a privilege to lead Gist over the last two years with a wonderful team.

“Together we had great fun achieving so much; embracing the new environment under M&S ownership, improving our performance and securing significant investment to update the infrastructure of the business.
“I took the decision to leave M&S believing 2025 will give me the chance to do something I have wanted to do for over 10 years. I will be starting that exciting thing in July after a couple of months’ downtime.”
M&S did not respond to Motor Transport’s request for a comment but trade publication The Grocer reported that the retailer’s head of logistics in its clothing and home division, Kevin Bennett, had been promoted to CEO and was replacing Hay.
