Generation Logistics sponsor CEVA has highlighted the career path of one of its employees as an example of how seizing opportunities and developing skills can lead to a rewarding job in the sector.
HR shared services administrator Harvir Sandhu started at the company when she was 20 for her industrial placement year as part of her university course.
CEVA said she was immediately provided with hands-on experience within HR to develop practical skills that complimented her university studies.
Once the placement had ended, Sandhu completed her degree while continuing to work at CEVA part-time, allowing her to keep her sector knowledge fresh and build operational experience.
She was then able to return to the business full-time and her role now provides exposure to the full employee lifecycle, from welcoming and onboarding new starters to supporting colleagues with queries and guiding them through the offboarding process.
“What I love most about CEVA іs the amount оf support and development opportunities available,” she said.
“Since returning tо the business full-time, I have gained exposure tо various areas оf HR, which has helped me broaden my understanding оf the function and develop new skills.
“I have also started my CIPD qualification, which has strengthened my understanding оf HR theory and enabled me tо apply my learning іn a real business environment with the support оf CEVA.”

Sandhu pointed out that before working within logistics she was unaware of the many different career opportunities and CEVA had shown her how diverse and fast-paced the industry was.
She added that communication, adaptability and a willingness to learn were core skills essential to her success.
Bethany Windsor, programme director at Generation Logistics, said: “Harvir’s story іs a brilliant example оf how varied and rewarding a career іn logistics can be.
“From a university placement year tо securing funded professional CIPD qualifications, her progression highlights the incredible depth оf opportunity available within corporate logistics functions.
“By taking advantage оf internal pathways and development schemes, she shows how learning іn the workplace builds the foundational confidence needed tо drive the sector forward. Her journey іs a fantastic blueprint for any graduate looking for a stable, progressive career path.”
