Davies Turner & Co has increased turnover and pre-tax profits despite “tough trading conditions” last year, according to its latest annual results.
Reporting its figures for the year ended 31 March 2018, the Coleshill-based company revealed a 12% rise in turnover to £132.9m (2017: £118.7m) and a 7% rise in pre-tax profits to £2.1m (2017: £2m).
Davies Turner & Co, which is a subsidiary of Davies Turner Plc, specialises in freight forwarding, trailer services, ocean freight, warehousing, logistics and haulage.
It has an operating licence to run a fleet of 26 trucks and 41 trailers and depots in Birmingham, Bristol, Dartford, Heathrow, Glasgow, Manchester, Dublin, Plymouth, Bridgend, Southampton, East Midlands Airport, Rotherham, Leeds and Newcastle.
In its strategic report, the company said the increase in turnover was “a very pleasing result during tough trading conditions”.
It added that the company “has continued to drive its growth in market share with ongoing investment in its overland and ocean freight services combined with its logistics, warehousing and distribution services".

Davies Turner & Co also boosted staff numbers in the period from 566 to 610 which it said was driven by its growth in logistics and by its national graduate apprenticeship programme which added a further 10 new full-time positions.
The year also saw investment in replacement trailers for the firm’s national and international haulage network and improvements in its materials handling equipment.
Going forward, Davies Turner & Co said it would be concentrating on strengthening its existing business and investing in new IT systems as well as staff training.
It added that despite the “high level” of uncertainty around Brexit the group remains confident it will be able to respond quickly to any outcome.
