MAN said it was on track for its heavy duty electric truck to roll off the production line in 2024 and it was now training staff in CO2-free technology.
One year after establishing its eMobility Centre at its main plant in Munich, MAN has produced 20 prototypes of its eTruck, testing future mixed series production with conventional trucks under real-life conditions.
It also said that in the future, despite the technological and employee challenges, conventional and battery-electric trucks would be built on the same production line in order to ensure better utilisation of its facilities.
“MAN is preparing for the future of electromobility and driving forward its transformation into a provider of sustainable transport solutions for climate-friendly road freight,” said Alexander Vlaskamp, MAN Truck & Bus CEO. “Our heavy-duty eTruck is scheduled to roll off the production line in Munich in early 2024.
“To this end, we are now training employees in high-voltage technology and making our production at our main plant in Munich more flexible.”
More than 1,700 employees have completed the high-voltage awareness training and this will have risen to 2,000 by the end of the year. MAN added that by the end of 2023 all relevant professionals in truck production in Munich will be qualified for series production of electric trucks.
