Deliveries of fuel to BP stations across the country are being restricted due to the industry-wide driver shortage. Urgent reforms of HGV driving training, tests and apprenticeships needed to solve skills crisis, warns Logistics UK
Logistics UK is calling for the government to urgently tackle the driver shortage crisis by providing financial support for HGV driver training, reforming the Apprenticeship Levy and prioritising HGV driver tests cancelled due to Covid restrictions.
Hoyer says 2012, and the medium term future, will be a “challenging period” as the bulk liquid giant reported a 6.8% fall in pre-tax profit to £3.5m for the year ending 31 December 2011 (2010: £3.8m). The UK government has published its “revolutionary” ‘Transport decarbonisation plan’ that includes a consultation on banning the sale of “non-zero emissions HGVs” under 26 tonnes by 2035 and the sale of all fossil-fuelled HGVs by 2040.
