HGV engineering apprentices have been given a six-figure boost after North West training provider Total People received a £750,000 investment from its group parent company for its Manchester facilities.
The customised ‘hub’, based on the Wythenshawe campus of The Manchester College, will focus on HGV, bus and coach engineering and will support apprentices and employers, as well as providing higher vocational training across the LTE Group.
LTE said the dedicated training facility meets the specific needs of the HGV curriculum and will create the next generation of engineering apprentices.
The investment includes the installation of large roller shutter doors to accommodate HGVs; a mezzanine area for classroom-based training and new mechanical and electrical services installations, which provide specialist ventilation, lighting, power and data.
Launching the hub last week was former racing driver and Fifth Gear presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson, who visited the newly refurbished facilities and dedicated logistics bay.
She said: “I am delighted to be part of Total People's new hub which will help so many in the bus, coach and HGV sectors.
“Apprenticeships and vocational training hone the skills needed for specific jobs, such as big vehicle engineers.”
