DHL is investing £17.5m to improve capacity at key locations across its UK network as parcel volumes continue to surge.
The logistics firm, which has has seen a 40% uplift in volumes this year, opened a new £7.5m unit in Eastleigh, Hants last month and moved operations from its nearby Fareham site into the building.
The new facility is more than double the size of DHL’s existing depot and is capable of handling more than 20,000 parcels a day.
DHL has also moved its Sheffield operations into a new, 79,000sq ft facility which can also handle around 20,000 parcels a day.
The company is also setting up units in Lincoln, Perth and Norwich.
Peter Fuller, chief executive of DHL Parcel UK, said: “The global pandemic has driven huge uplift in e-commerce and accelerated our network upgrade plans. The new infrastructure will improve our parcel handling capabilities, enabling us to support our customers’ ongoing e-commerce growth.”
