The number of transport managers disqualified for non-compliance fell by over a third last year, according to the latest annual report from the Office of the Traffic Commissioner.
The report for the year to 31 March 2020 revealed that 88 transport managers were disqualified in the period, compared to 103 in the previous year.
The number of public inquiries also dipped, down from 873 to 818, whilst licence revocations dropped to 282 from 314 in 2018.
The West Midlands region had the lion’s share of disqualified transport managers in the year, with 17 losing their right to practice. However this was significantly less than the previous year when 27 transport managers were disqualified in the region.
The West Midlands also had the highest number of licence revocations in the year, standing at 23, compared to 27 the year before.
Applications for new licences in the year also saw a reduction to 5049, down from 5666 in 2018/19.
The number of new licences granted in the year is also on a downward trajectory at 4546, down from 5105 in the previous year.
The OTC refused 522 applications for new licences, compared to 432 in 2018/19.
