Expiration dates for the Safe Loading Pass Scheme (SLPS) have been extended until 25 July in order to help hauliers continue to run smoothly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Administered by the FTA, the SLPS identifies the vehicles and trailers that meet the safety standards required for admittance to fuel and gas loading terminals.
In January, it was extended to cover liquefied petroleum gases.
The FTA said all vehicle safe loading passes, which expire between 25 March and 25 June 2020, will now remain valid until 25 July.
It said hauliers will have until this date to carry out a SLPS inspection on vehicles whose passes were extended during this period.
Sharon Mitchell, FTA head of audits and standards, said: “Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the team at the SLPS is determined to play its part in helping individuals to stay safe while ensuring business can continue to run as smoothly as possible; our decision to extend temporarily the SLPS expiration dates will assist industry greatly.
“We urge all drivers, inspection companies, terminal staff and employees to take seriously the safety precautions outlined by government; we will also be monitoring closely government guidance.”
