Thames Enterprise Park has submitted an outline planning application to Thurrock council to create a 5 million sq ft ‘superhub’ on the site of the former Coryton Oil Refinery.
The park, a joint venture between logistics developer iSec and biofuels specialist Greenery, is adjacent to London Gateway Port and is intended to create 4,500 jobs.
The development would include a dedicated food hub bringing together processing, packaging, storage and distribution in one location using a series of highly automated facilities totalling up to 1 million sq ft located off a central boulevard.
Chris Brookhouse, Thames Enterprise Park’s chief executive, said the park would offer occupiers the chance to streamline their supply chains.
“This is a unique opportunity for food operators and e-retailers to cluster just 30 miles from London,” he said.
The park would also include areas for developing renewable fuels and for SMEs to research and develop sustainable technologies.
