Plans to build Tilbury2 are being fined tuned following a recent statutory consultation process.
The consultation, which closed on 28 July, is part of the planning process for the construction of a new port. Port of Tilbury owners Forth Ports want to expand its existing operations by building and managing a new satellite terminal, named Tilbury2, to the east of Tilbury port.
In a statement Port of Tilbury owners Forth Ports said: “The statutory process closed on 28 July and was part of the second stage of seeking views from communities and key stakeholders.
“The port will now further develop the scheme in light of all the feedback received before submitting a formal application for a development consent order (DCO) to the Planning Inspectorate, acting on behalf of the Secretary of State for Transport, in the autumn this year.
“All the feedback submitted through the public events and the website is being collated into a full report on the consultation process and will form part of the formal application.”
If it gets the go ahead Tilbury2 will be built on a 152 acre site which was part of the former Tilbury Power Station and will include a new deep water jetty in the river Thames and new road and rail facilities.
Plans include a ro-ro terminal, a bulk terminal for importing and processing construction materials and aggregates and an area for storage of containers, bulk goods and vehicles.
A proposed construction materials and aggregates terminal will ship materials from the site via road, rail and barge.
If the transport secretary gives the submission the green light, development of the site could begin in 2019.
