A van driver was killed in Calais this morning as a result of a migrant blockage on the A16. The Polish-registered vehicle collided with one of three HGVs that had been stopped by tree trunks in the road at 3.45am this morning. The van caught fire upon impact, killing the driver. Liverpool-based tanker operator Abbey Logistics Group has begun sending unaccompanied tank containers to mainland Europe via Zeebrugge for one of its food ingredient customers in order to avoid ongoing migrant problems in northern France.
The FTA has called on Eurotunnel and the French authorities to upgrade any weak spots in their security fencing after more than 100 migrants broke into the tunnel operator’s French terminal earlier this month, causing hours of delays to passenger and freight services.
