Transport minister John Hayes is to deliver the keynote speech at the Microlise Transport Conference.

When he speaks at the Ricoh Arena on 17 May, Hayes will use the opportunity to discuss the opportunities the apprenticeship levy and trailblazer apprentiships can offer the road transport industry.

Hayes said: “I have brought the industry together to see where the government can help them address their concerns and to encourage them to rise to the challenge of recruiting the next generation of Logistics professionals.

"That requires a co-ordinated approach that improves working conditions and promotes development and progression in a dynamic and modern industry."

Microlise said, with the event's interactive audience polling, the conference will be the ideal opportunity for industry to send Hayes a "powerful message to government".

Microlise CEO Nadeem Raza said: “We are pleased to welcome the Minister as the conference keynote. With more than 1,000 delegates attending from the haulier and transport operator community this is a great opportunity for government to address a large group of industry decision makers and for the industry as a whole to have its say."

Senior traffic comissioner Beverley Bell and DVSA head of enforcement policy Gordon Macdonald will also speak at the event. Registration for the free-to-attend conference is open now.
