Wincanton is continuing its fleet expansion at pace with the addition of 21 Renault Range Ts for its construction division and 85 for its container business.

This latest expansion follows on from the addition of 80 new Renault and Mercedes-Benz trucks and 276 curtain-sided trailers to Wincanton’s fleet in December of last year, with the firm’s total fleet now standing at just more than 4,000 vehicles.

Dave Rowlands, Wincanton’s technical services director, told Motortransport.co.uk the company chose the manufactuerer because of the performance of the Renault Premiums it has run in its fleet previously.

He said: “One of Wincanton’s key priorities is to minimise the impact of our operations on the environment, so investing in vehicles with optimum fuel efficiency is a prerequisite.

“The Renault Premium has been one of our top performers on fuel, so its successor, the Range T, with its new and improved Euro-6 engine and additional fuel saving features, is a natural choice for our business.”

Rowlands said the Renault Range T also meets Wincanton’s safety requirements. He said: “Wincanton promotes and maintains the highest standards of health and safety management so that we can safeguard our people, customers and wider public at every level of the business.

"Our Range Ts'  safety features include electronic traction control, electronic stability control, and all-round camera systems, as well as being fully Clocs compliant.”

Wincanton is also aiming to cut fuel consumption by fitting Kuda’s iAM and LaserEye air management systems into its new Renaults.

The Kuda iAM claimes to increase fuel efficiency for high volume trailers by reducing the airflow created by the larger surface area of the bulkheads, whilst the Laser Eye removes the need for the driver to adjust the roof deflector ensuring the optimum spoiler height and angle is set for every trip.

Tim Vincent, product market development head at Kuda UK, said: “It’s great to have such a high profile and flagship fleet operating our new iAM and LaserEye kits.

“The fact both Renault and Wincanton have chosen our products just proves that all of the hard work and testing has produced a truly revolutionary market leading fuel saving system".
