DHL Supply Chain has won a deal to provide a next day delivery service for Saab parts supplier Orio UK.
DHL will work with Orio at its new parts distribution centre in Hatfield to ensure Orio UK meets its guarantee on free overnight deliveries on all orders placed before 2pm by Saab authorised service centres and garages.
The partnership will see DHL deliver a diverse range of parts such as service kits, brakes, airbags and batteries, as well as over 100 crash repair items.
The deal also sees a state-of-the-art IT system used to give Orio full visibility and traceability of parts throughout the delivery. It also allows parts to be registered on the system by the service centres and returned to distribution centre.
Corin Richards, MD at Orio UK, said: “DHL’s expertise in the automotive sector and knowledge of aftermarket service has enhanced our operations and enabled us to offer a more competitive service to customers.
He added: “With over 180,000 Saab vehicles active on UK roads, there is an on-going need for Saab parts, although many garages and bodyshops believe they are difficult to get hold of. This is a misperception that we are now addressing. With our new UK distribution centre now open and fulfilling orders next day, we can genuinely say that servicing and repair of Saabs has never been easier.”
Bill Bacon, MD of automotive at DHL supply chain, said the new contract will help DHL grow its experience in the automotive industry. He added: “
"By leveraging DHL’s knowledge in aftermarket service, we are providing Orio with the logistics and infrastructure it requires to meet customer demand and ensure that parts are with garages in optimum time”.
In the year ending December 2014, DHL Supply Chain in the UK grew its turnover by 7.3% to £4.13bn (2013: £3.85bn), with pre-tax profit rising 124% to £91.6m (2013: £40.9m).
