TfL and the Metropolitan Police have celebrated a milestone in their Exchanging Places venture, which welcomed its 20,000th participant at a cycling festival in London last week.

The joint-funded initiative allows members of the public to climb into the cab of an HGV to better understand what drivers can and cannot see while they are behind the wheel.

The milestone was reached at the Prudential RideLondon event, where 1,200 people took part and received tips on how to be safe on the road around HGVs.

Steve Burton, TfL’s director of enforcement and on-street policing, said: “Through these sessions we are able to help cyclists and HGV drivers have a mutual understanding of the challenges they face while sharing the road, and how we can help to reduce injuries.”
