Amazon has signed a lease on a new DC in Dunstable.

The online retail giant will rent 310,000ft² of space from Prologis in Prologis Park Dunstable, which will be operational by autumn, according to the owner.

It is thought the new centre will create 500 jobs in the local area.

This is the fourth centre Amazon has rented from Prologis in the UK, with others in Peterborough, Marston Gate and Hemel Hempstead.

Andrew Griffiths, MD of Prologis UK, said: “Prologis has a strong relationship with Amazon in the UK and at a global level, so we are delighted to be working with the company again at Dunstable.

"We believe that Dunstable is a strong location for the logistics sector and we are investing in our site on Boscombe Road because it offers some of the best opportunities for our customers in the South East market.”

Last month, Amazon reported a $57m (£37m) loss for the first quarter of 2015, with the company spending large sums on innovative projects such as drone delivery.
