DIY retailer B&Q is to install a biomethane gas filling station at its Swindon DC to support the operations of 50 dual-fuel trucks the firm introduced at the site in December. The 50 trucks, split equally between Mercedes-Benz and Volvo, were brought in after two separate trials in the last two years. Brit European Transport is investing in a fleet of 24 new dual-fuel vehicles to service a contract with long-term customer and construction equipment manufacturer JCB. The firm, which has worked with JCB for 15 years, has just signed a new five-year deal with optional two-year extension to distribute finished JCB products from production sites in Staffordshire to dealers and export ports around the country. Hermes has slashed its CO2 output by 6% in the past year, with the business achieving savings of 18.4% since 2008. The parcels firm has set itself a target of a 20% reduction by 2015.
