ArrowXL has turned its focus to recycling to cut down on CO2 emissions, with an agreement to transport thousands of white goods to electrical waste experts GAP Group.
It has also established a national recycling centre in Wigan for packaging waste materials.
The two-person home delivery firm said it currently collected 48,000 white goods for recycling every year and moved them to Wigan for processing; 6,000 of these units are transferred from its Airdrie site.
Under its zero waste roadmap, these items will now be transported from Airdrie to GAP Renewal’s recycling centre in Perth, cutting out 40,000 miles every year.
Arrow drivers will also be trained to identify units for resale, helping reduce landfill waste.
ArrowXL added that its Wigan recycling centre will serve as a hub for processing and sorting recyclable materials and drivers are being trained to sort paper, cardboard, plastic and polystyrene prior to arriving at the site.
Ian Pearson, procurement manager at ArrowXL, said: “We want the disposal of our waste to become a USP for us and our clients.
“By investing in innovative recycling initiatives and infrastructure, we are not only fulfilling our corporate responsibility but also setting a new standard for sustainability practices within the logistics industry.”
