Police rescued 18 people from the back of a refrigerated lorry near Peterborough on Tuesday (23 February), less than a week after a similar incident on the A14.

Officers in Cambridgeshire said they received a call from an HGV driver who had noticed the people on his vehicle and was concerned for their welfare.

Paramedics attended the scene at Haddon Services on the A1M but nobody was injured.

The stowaways’ welfare is now being handled by the immigration services.

On 17 February, three men were rescued from the back of an HGV on the A14 near Brampton after they called the police and said they were suffocating.

The police repeated their call for the public to contact them if they notice anything strange or suspicious occurring near HGVs, such as people emerging from vehicles, or produce being thrown from them.
