APC Overnight has appointed former Yodel boss Jonathan Smith as its chief executive.
He replaces former chief executive Karl Brown, who took the reins at the parcel delivery network in November 2013. Brown will remain on the APC board and continue to act as chairman of his three member depots; Direct Logistics in Thorne, and Express Logistics in Nottingham and Stockport.
Smith was formerly MD of DHL Domestic (UK) and, upon its merger with Home Delivery Network to form Yodel, was appointed chief executive at the merged business in 2010. He left Yodel in December 2012 and later joined parcel locker firm InPost UK as chairman in November 2013.
Smith said: “My first role as CEO will be to conduct an in-depth review of the company’s operations, in order to develop a strategy on how APC Overnight can continue to expand into what has become one of the UK’s most rapidly changing sectors.”
APC Overnight chairman Jon Barber said: “It has been a long-term aspiration of the business to appoint an independent external chief executive to take over the reins of the business.
“With Jonathan’s appointment the business will be entering into the next stage of its development, building on our existing high service levels and nationwide network of 115 independent delivery businesses. We’re looking forward to some further insight and support in taking the business forward," added Barber.
