Eddie Stobart has wrestled a £15m Cemex contract from Wincanton after promising to deliver it using fewer sub-contractors.

Stobart will pick up the work, which Wincanton has held since 2013, from next month, after which it will deliver packed cement from Cemex production sites to customers around the UK.

Cemex told MT that it had changed service provider because Eddie Stobart was able to move a much higher proportion of goods with its own fleet rather than via sub-contracted vehicles.

It added that Stobart's digital offering and safety set-up tied in with Cemex Go - a new digital end-to-end process it will be introducing in April.

Eddie Stobart CEO Alex Laffey said the business would bring "a fleet of vehicles and industry leading equipment with greater health and safety features" to the operation.

David Hart, logistics director at Cemex UK, said: "Following a competitive process, we are pleased to confirm that Eddie Stobart has been awarded the contract to transport our packed products to our customers for three years.

"The Eddie Stobart team will be providing the full end-to-end logistics service across our supply chain ensuring a superior customer experience.”

Laffey added: "We’re thrilled to have been awarded this contract from CemexUK and look forward to working alongside the business to enhance its distribution and supply chain. This win further underlines our commitment to the Manufacturing, Industrial and Bulk sector.”
