DHL

DHL Supply Chain has secured a five-year contract to manage the warehousing and distribution of aftermarket parts for Volvo Cars.

It will  manage four shared use local DCs on Volvo's behalf,  deliveries to which will be made through the night by DHL’s Auto Alliance collaborative network. The network uses a series of cross-docks throughout the UK to minimise cost.

It will also provide same-day deliveries of car parts to 120 dealerships across the UK under the deal.

DHL will use a dedicated fleet of over 35 trucks, all fitted with forward facing cameras, Microlise telematics, full closure tail-lifts and double-deck trailers designed especially for the automotive market.

A spokeswoman for DHL said that the operator has worked with Volvo cars for around 10 years, but the new deal is a separate contract.

Michael Martin, VP business development, automotive, DHL Supply Chain added:  "DHL is delighted to be working with one of the world’s leading automotive companies to drive forward innovative approaches for exceptional customer service.

"This new contract heralds a new partnership between DHL and Volvo Cars, which will see us deliver an innovative service-level delivery network, resulting in increased efficiencies.”
