DHL has taken over transport and distribution from Wincanton for the former Morrisons convenience store estate.

The 140 M Local stores were sold at a £30m loss to entrepreneur Mike Greene, who insisted the new stores, rebranded as My Local, will succeed where Morrisons’ failed.

DHL provides logistics for Nisa stores across the country.

Morrisons has kept hold of five M Local stores.

Wincanton was awarded a five year contract extension for the transport and distribution to Morrisons’ local stores back in 2013.

Commenting a the time the sale of the stores was announced, a spokesman for Wincanton told Motortransport.co.uk: “Our focus is on ensuring the security of our employees and meeting the changing needs of one of the UK’s biggest supermarkets.

“Morrisons is a long-term and valued partner of ours, and we will continue to work with them to drive greater efficiencies and innovations in their supply chain. We will confirm our future plans in due course.”

DHL declined to comment on the new operation.
