Yusen Logistics has begun work on a new contract with SMR Automotive Mirrors UK involving sub-assembly and delivery of door mirrors to Jaguar’s XK and F-Type assembly line.

The operation, which began in February, requires daily collections of product five days a week from SMR’s Portsmouth manufacturing facility.

It also requires quality control, assembly, packaging and linefeed sequencing of mirrors at Yusen’s 81,000ft² Tamworth site, and delivery twice a day on a just-in-time basis to Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich assembly line in the West Midlands.

Yusen will use a fleet of articulated vehicles for the daily collections from SMR and a dedicated Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van for deliveries to Jaguar, said a spokeswoman for the company.
