Smyths Toys Superstores has awarded Wincanton a one year distribution contract to handle the toy retailer’s nationwide deliveries.
The contract will see Wincanton manage product distribution from the retailer’s warehouse in Newcastle-under-Lyme to its 39 stores across the UK.
“When we began to look for a logistics partner we had a clear vision that we needed a provider with the scale and flexibility to meet our busy peak periods, such as the run-up to Christmas, to achieve maximum sales potential,” Tom Stratford, commercial director at Smyths Toys Superstores, said.
Using its shared-user fleet, Wincanton will make more than 250 deliveries for Smyths Toys per week, via its northern regional transport network.
The contract was awarded as part of the toy retailer’s strategy to ensure smooth distribution ahead of the busy Christmas peak.
Steve Taylor, Wincanton’s director responsible for transport, said: “Currently there are few UK markets as competitive as the retail industry, and I believe today’s announcement underlines our market-leading credentials within this sector.”
