Stobart Group’s Biomass division has won a 15-year contract with Western Bioenergy to supply 150,000 tonnes of biomass a year to its plant in Port Talbot, Wales.
Furthermore Stobart has invested an £800,000 equity and debt stake in the project, alongside Greensphere Capital, which owns Western Bioenergy.
Stobart Biomass will supply approximately 50% of the volume itself and manage and process the remainder, which will be supplied by an as yet un-named third party.
Chief executive Andrew Tinkler said: “We are pleased to have been able to make an investment in the project, which we expect to result in attractive returns for the group, in addition to the profit generated by the supply of biomass."
Earlier this month Stobart revealed its Biomass division had won a contract to supply up to one million tonnes of biomass fuel per year to Greensphere Capital.
