Stobart signs up to Science-Based Targets Initiative to reduce carbon footprint

Stobart said it had become the first major logistics provider in the UK to set science-based targets to reduce carbon emissions.

The company said it had signed up to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a global project that provides business leaders with the accountability framework they need to reduce their carbon footprint.

SBTi is a collaboration between the United Nations Global Compact, CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), World Resources Institute and the World Wide Fund for Nature.

The initiative defines, promotes and showcases best practice on setting science-based targets to reduce emissions and independent assesses and approves targets.

Stobart, part of Culina Group, said it had created an initial roadmap for how it intends to achieve the targets and this will be approved by SBTi within the next year.

Stobart chief executive David Pickering said: “This commitment forms part of the Stobart aim to be the most sustainable UK logistics service provider.
