A revised Safe Loading Pass Scheme (SLPS) for accessing fuel distribution terminals has been launched by the UK Petroleum Industry Association (UKPIA), the Tank Storage Association (TSA) and the FTA.
The original scheme was launched in the 1980s by BP Oil UK, Shell UK Oil Products, Esso Petroleum Company, ConocoPhillips (now Phillips66), Total UK and Chevron (now Valero). It was a means of identifying vehicles and trailers that have been inspected by qualified persons and deemed to meet specified safety standards for admittance to fuel terminals.
The FTA is now developing an online database of UK registered tankers and trailers that have been approved for entry to participating terminals, allowing terminal operators to verify passes electronically if required.
The scheme is also being extended to cover all UKPIA and TSA member sites who supply high and low flash white oil petroleum products.

"A new website and database, together with revised standards and assessments for Inspection Locations will ensure the scheme continues to grow and develop."
The revised SLPS is due for launch this autumn.
