Fowler Welch plans to offer more services to agricultural produce customers at its Teynham, Kent, site by increasing its packing and processing capabilities.
Plans submitted to Swale Borough Council show that the operator wants to extend storage space at the site by over 52,000ft², taking it to 130,000ft² in total.
Although the operator does not plan to run any more vehicles out of the site, which is currently authorised for 100 vehicles and 150 trailers, it wants to increase the number of loading bays from 17 to 21.
It intends to remove two of its current loading bays to make room for a compactor and build six new bays.
It also hopes to extend its service yard and increase the space available for tractor and trailer parking.
A spokeswoman for the operator said: “We are committed to providing a quality service to our customer base of local produce growers and suppliers within the UK. We hope to increase the processing and packing services in Teynham to provide a broader service to our valued customers.”
If the plans are approved, Fowler Welch hopes to create 60 more jobs at the site, taking its workforce to nearly 300.
