Glowing Techno Gears 01

Over Christmas and the New Year Motortransport.co.uk will count down the Power Players – the list of the 20 people who we believe have the most influence and exert the most control over the road transport industry.

This list is by no means objective, but we’ve debated the merits of those on the list. You will find operators, clients, industry stakeholders and a few off-the-wall choices. Some are there because they exerted power in 2013, while others appear because we expect them to have an influence in 2014.

What they all have in common is a direct influence (for good or ill) over the industry. Everyone on this list has the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behaviour of others, or the course of events in road transport. We’ve excluded the likes of the prime minster and the chancellor because, despite their power, they are not dictating events or behaviour in the industry.

There will be a new entry go up every weekday until we we reveal the winner on Monday 13 January (the same day as the list appears in our first print edition of 2014).

Eagle-eyed readers of Motortransport.co.uk will have noticed that, like a horse early out of the traps, number 20: Stobart Group chief executive Andrew Tinkler, was revealed yesterday.
