A pallet wrapping company has warned that businesses are wasting hundreds of thousands of pounds per year by not ensuring goods are adequately packaged.
Golden Valley Pallet Wrap Specialists (GVPS) said it was “surprising” that some firms often overlook the price of wrapping pallets, given the huge costs involved.
And it warned that supply chain overheads could rocket if loads become unstable during transit or pallets spill their contents.
GVPS MD Martyn Sumner said the most common mistake it sees companies making is buying the cheapest wrapping film: “Cheap and cheerful always costs more in the long run.”
He added: “Ensuring that a palletised load is properly secured before it leaves the factory, warehouse or distribution centre is an essential aspect of any efficient logistics operation.”
Gloucestershire-based GVPS said it offered a “packaging health check” service to customers, in which loads are analysed and a cost per pallet calculated.
