Yodel has strongly defended itself against claims that delays to deliveries of the new PlayStation 5 are its fault, as customers struggle to get hold of the console.

The much anticipated PS5 was released in the UK on 19 November, but lockdown restrictions mean people cannot buy one in the shops.

The BBC reported that retailer Game had emailed customers to say Yodel had told it not all orders due to be delivered by the courier would be delivered on the release day, “due to capacity issues in their delivery network”.

This prompted a robust response from Yodel, which said it was “deeply disappointing” its name was being incorrectly used and that it did not work directly with Game.

In a statement, Yodel said: “We have been consistently clear on the order volumes we are able to carry for them and it is deeply disappointing that Yodel’s name has been incorrectly used in an email to customers on the status of orders.

“There are currently no delays within our network.”

Yodel’s statement added: “The safe, secure and timely delivery of each of these parcels is our utmost priority, and we are committed to ensuring customers receive the excellent service which we stand for.”
