XPO’s head of sustainability, Dr Nicholas Head, has been named as vice chair of the sustainable logistics forum.
Representing 18 larger fleet operators, the forum is part of Rutland Forums, a partner of XPO Logistics, which facilitate collaboration groups of sustainability and energy practitioners, helping members to decarbonise their organisations quicker and more cost-effectively.
XPO said all forums meet regularly to collaborate on projects, share best practices, and work closely with the government to develop policies to accelerate the UK’s low-carbon transition.
Dr Head also sits on the forum’s board of advisors, who represent the sustainability interests of all members, including large corporations and retailers, such as Boots, John Lewis Partnership and Tesco.
He has more than 15 years’ experience working with organisations to advance environmental goals and holds a doctorate in sustainable waste and resource management, as well as a master’s degree in waste management from the University of Northampton, where he also served as an associate lecturer.
Dr Head said: “Decarbonising the economy and transportation in a manner that is not unduly burdensome on businesses or job creation and retention is a huge challenge that requires cross-sector collaboration as never before.
“Having the opportunity to participate in the sustainable logistics forum and help guide debate among industry peers can only benefit all involved, including providing substantial opportunities to identify initiatives that can drive that decarbonisation journey.”
