Daimler Truck’s global sales reduced by more than 8% in the first quarter of the year, with the greatest decline occurring in Europe, according to its latest figures.

The group reported that it had sold 99,812 trucks in January, February and March, down 8.4% from 108,911 in the same period last year.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks, which now also includes operations in China and India following a restructuring, saw sales fall by 18.1% to 33,446 units.

Sales of trucks in North America reduced by 15.67% to 38,992.

However, the company saw increases within both its Asia business – 16% - and in Daimler Buses – 11%.

Sales of battery-electric vehicles fell 7% to 759 (813).

Last month, Daimler announced it planned to build Europe’s largest semi-public charging network for electric heavy-duty vehicles, by allowing fleets to plug in at someone else’s depot.
