XPO Logistics has landed a multi-million pound logistics deal with kitchen manufacturer Gower Furniture.
The deal aims to cut Gower’s logistics costs, boost efficiency and allow the manufacturer to focus on expanding its core business.
Under the agreement, XPO Logistics will provide Halifax-based Gower with 2,000 timed, full-load deliveries a year to customer DCs, as well as more than 8,000 multi-drop deliveries to more than 150 UK branches.
XPO has invested in a dedicated fleet of tractors and trailers equipped with tracking technology to provide traceability of orders, equipment monitoring and fuel use analysis.
The operator will have 22 Renault tractor units, 19 high-cube, single deck trailers, and 16 ratchet deck trailers working on the contract.
XPO will lead a cost improvement programme to identify and deliver day-to-day efficiencies, such as increased back haul opportunities and optimising fleet usage with improved management traffic flows.
Gower Furniture’s parent company Nobia's UK logistics director Andy Young said: “Working with the XPO Logistics team will allow us to focus even more effectively on the manufacturing of quality kitchens – our core competency – while knowing that our products will be in safe hands for reliable delivery.
"We’re delighted to be in such experienced hands as we continue our dynamic growth”.
XPO Logistics UK business unit director Dave Finnie said: “Nobia came to us as the UK’s leading kitchen specialist with a requirement for supply chain support that will scale up as it delivers on its growth plans.
"We are committed to helping Nobia reduce cost and improve efficiency to deliver even greater value to its customers”.
