Devon haulier Wains Transport said both of its Actros L tractor units were performing consistently better on fuel efficiency compared to any other vehicles in its 25-strong fleet.

It recently took delivery of a second Mercedes-Benz Actros L 2553, specified with a GigaSpace cab and powered by a 12.8-litre in-line six-cylinder engine.

“We don’t measure mpg obsessively, because there’s a lot of variation in the work our trucks do, but the Actros are consistently better than any other tractor in our line-up by a noticeable margin,” said MD Aaron Wain.

“We always specify our trucks to be as comfortable as possible. Our drivers are typically out on the road all week, so it’s only fair.

“The Actros L is as close as you can get to a home-from-home.”

The company added that it had commissioned artwork for its latest HGV paying tribute to the “indomitable bulldog spirit of Sir Winston Churchill” and it had opted for a portrait of his famous ‘V for Victory’ salute.

Wains Transport specialises in bulk tipper and low-loader work as well as general haulage, with vehicles running across the UK from its base at Kingsford Rural Business Centre, situated minutes from the M5 near Cullompton.
