Pelican Electric Trucks is accelerating the shift to zero emission transport in the UK, bringing together more than a century of commercial vehicle expertise with cutting edge electric technology. As part of the Pelican Engineering Group, the business draws on deep industry knowledge, long standing operator relationships and a proven track record in delivering reliable, future ready fleet solutions.

At the heart of Pelican’s latest offering is the Yutong TE7, a 7.5 tonne electric truck designed specifically for real world operator needs that offers a class-leading range of up to 180 miles on a single charge. This exceptional range is a key differentiator, enabling operators to complete full daily duties without compromise. It makes the TE7 ideally suited to urban distribution, municipal work and regional operations where reliability and uptime are critical.

Crucially, the Yutong TE7 is officially approved for the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) Plug-in Truck Grant, helping reduce upfront costs and making the transition to electric more accessible for operators.

The TE7 is available with two battery options—100kWh and 132kWh—allowing operators to tailor the vehicle to their duty cycles. A lightweight chassis, giving an outstanding payload capacity, and three wheelbase lengths and (3360mm, 3850mm and 4500mm) further expand its versatility, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of body types and applications. From box and curtain side bodies, to drop side, tippers and refrigerated distribution, the TE7 offers a platform that can be adapted to almost any operational requirement.

One of Pelican’s strongest differentiators is the proven nature of its electric technology. The TE7 shares its core systems with the Yutong electric bus and coach range, of which more than 1,000 units are already in service across the UK

Backed by dedicated after sales and technical support, Pelican Electric Trucks delivers electric solutions that are ready for work today. This level of real world validation gives fleet operators confidence that the TE7 is not an experimental product—it is a proven, reliable solution backed by a nationwide support network.

Pelican’s aftersales capability is a central part of its offer. Dedicated technical support, comprehensive training and a strong parts supply chain ensure that operators receive the same level of service they would expect from any established commercial vehicle brand.

A partnership with Sapphire Vehicle Solutions also gives the Pelican electric truck proposition a nationwide service and repair solution. For fleets transitioning to electric for the first time, this reassurance is invaluable.

While much of the industry conversation around HGV decarbonisation and electrification has focused on large trucks (18 tonnes and above), Pelican argues that the 7.5 tonne sector is much more accessible and straightforward to electrify and presents an immediate opportunity for meaningful decarbonisation progress.

With higher vehicle costs, bigger batteries, and the need for expensive high power charging infrastructure, larger HGVs face significant operational, financial and infrastructure challenges to electrify.

Site electrical capacity is a major challenge facing fleets when looking to electrify larger HGVs. More specifically the costs and time required to upgrade the supply is a real barrier to wider fleet electrification.

In contrast, the TE7 can be fully charged overnight using standard 11kW AC chargers, potentially avoiding the immediate need for costly site upgrades. This presents operators with the opportunity to electrify a segment of their fleet more quickly whilst the long-term transition of the wider fleet is managed.

For many operators, the TE7 offers a pragmatic, low risk entry point into electrification—one that does not require major capital investment or operational disruption.

Although the 7.5t sector is typically back-to-base, with generally lower daily mileage routes that are within the range of the truck, the TE7’s dimensions and charging compatibility mean it can also access existing public charging networks if required without the need for dedicated HGV charging facilities. This flexibility further reduces range anxiety and supports mixed use operations.

The Yutong 7.5 tonne electric truck presents fleet operators with the natural first step or, for fleets already on their electrification journey—whether through electric vans or larger HGVs—the TE7 represents a natural next step in their electrification strategy

Its combination of range, payload, charging simplicity and proven technology makes it one of the most compelling electric trucks currently available in the UK.

The TE7 demonstrates that electrification in the 7.5 tonne sector is not a future ambition—it is a practical, commercially viable reality today.
