Premier Logistics

Leicester-based Pall-Ex member Premier Logistics has opened its first southern hub, as part of its stated plan to double its operation in size in the coming twelve months.

The company has secured the St Albans site of Bill Chippington Haulage, which ceased trading last month.

Mark Steel, commercial manager at Premier Logistics, said the firm got the keys to the premises (offered as a mid-term lease) yesterday, and should complete its first bit of Pall-Ex work from the site tonight.

“This is a great staging post for us in the south,” Steel told Motortransport.co.uk.  “It will provide good opportunities for our groupage business and will allow us to consider contracts we would have previously had to walk away from, as we will now have far more synergy in regards backloads.

“Ultimately it strengthens us in contract logistics, which is where we want to be as a business. The intention is to secure two more regional depots this year,” he added.

Areas of interest include the M40 corridor and the North West, as well as possibly the North East.

As part of the expansion, Premier Logistics has added to its existing LE postcode work for Pall-Ex, and taken on Bill Chippington’s former Pall-Ex postcode areas of WD, AL and HA.

Steel added that the deal had secured the jobs of two previous Bill Chippington administration staff, and up to five drivers.

Premier Logistics also purchased a number of Bill Chippington vehicles and trailers.
