Whistl’s Driver Training Team has been recognised for its contribution to fleet safety, with network incidents falling by more than 40% between 2023 and 2025.

Road safety charity Brake’s UK Fleet Champions Awards recognise fleet organisations that strive to prevent road deaths and injuries and reduce pollution caused by their vehicles.

Whistl’s five-strong team, based across its operations in Bedford, Bolton and Bristol, won the award for helping deliver significant improvements in fleet safety through a programme of structured driver training, telematics-led coaching and regular assessments.

By using data to identify risks and target interventions, the team has helped reduce incidents across Whistl’s network.

The number of network incidents fell from 171 in 2023 to 97 in 2025, a reduction of more than 40%. The improvement continued throughout 2025, with incidents per million miles falling by more than 55% between the first and fourth quarters, from 13.87 to 6.17.

Whistl said the results demonstrate the impact of the team’s ongoing commitment to safer driving and continuous improvement.

The team’s commitment to road safety also extends into the local communities where Whistl operates. During 2025, it delivered Road Safety Week sessions at three primary schools in Bedford, Bolton and Bristol, helping to raise awareness of road safety among children.

In addition to winning Fleet Team of the Year, Whistl received a Highly Commended recognition in the Dr Will Murray Award for Analysis and Action, highlighting the company’s wider commitment to using data and insight to improve fleet safety.

The awards ceremony took place at New Dock Hall at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. Whistl regularly supports Brake and its initiatives, including Road Safety Week.

Ian Keilty, Whistl chief executive, commented: “Congratulations to our Driver Training Team on this well-deserved recognition from Brake, the road safety charity.

“Their continued commitment to improving driver and fleet safety is delivering measurable results, and this award recognises the important work they do to make our operations safer.”

Speaking at the awards, Ross Moorlock, Brake chief executive, said: “The organisations being recognised tonight are not simply collecting awards plaques; they are setting benchmarks for an entire sector.

“They are proving that road safety and business performance go hand in hand. And they are demonstrating that protecting people is not a compliance exercise; it is a leadership responsibility.”
