Scan Global Logistics (SGL) has opened its first office in Ireland as it continues to expand its European footprint in a “critical trade region” offering the company a gateway between North America and Europe.

The Danish global freight forwarder employs 4,200 staff worldwide and has over 190 offices, including three in the UK at Aylesford, Heathrow and Newcastle.

Announcing the deal SGL said that Ireland is “well-known” as an ideal logistics hub for companies involved in transatlantic trade, providing direct access between both North American and European markets.

Lars Syberg, Scan Global Logistics EMEA chief executive, said: “Our expansion into Ireland marks another step in the development of our regional network.

“This growth reflects our strategic focus on enhancing our capabilities across key markets, allowing us to provide comprehensive, tailored logistics solutions.

“By building a strong presence in Ireland and expanding our regional footprint, we are better positioned to support our customers’ needs and drive long-term growth in the region.”

Neil Murray, MD of UK and Ireland (pictured right), said: “Ireland is a key market for us. Its proximity to major trade lanes and position as a Transatlantic gateway within air and ocean transport makes it ideal for supporting our global growth goals.”

The office will be headed by Scott Darcy (pictured left), the newly appointed Ireland country director, under the leadership of Neil Murray.

Murray added: “Our mission is to uncomplicate our customers’ logistics challenges by delivering efficient, dependable, and forward-thinking solutions.

“Establishing a presence in Ireland enhances our ability to meet customer needs with greater agility locally and globally.”

This is the latest move by the company to expand its global network, which has seen it expanded into Italy by acquiring Foppiani Shipping & Logistics and establishing a presence in Saudi Arabia, earlier this year.
