Newcastle-based Gurteen Recycling Limited, which trades as Gurteen Transport, has closed its doors, the company has revealed.

Gurteen Recycling, which was founded in 2012 by MD Paul Gurteen, has an operating licence for 15 trucks and eight trailers.

The company, which has its headquarters in Killingworth, began by specialising in collecting recyclable materials, covering over 1,500 sites in Scotland and the North East of England.

Gurteen Recycling also offers global and events logistics, pallet deliveries and stock management and operates a 20,0000sq ft warehouse in Newcastle.

The company’s commercial director Katriona Bennett expressed her shock and sadness at the company’s demise.

Writing on LinkedIn, she said: “I never imagined I’d be writing this, but after almost 13 years with Gurteen Recycling, yesterday we officially closed our doors and entered liquidation.

“It’s been an incredible journey – full of challenges, plenty of laughs, and countless memories. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of connecting with so many amazing people from across the country (even if it was often just online or over the phone!).

“A huge thank you to Paul Gurteen Transport and Tanja Gurteen – your support and leadership made it all possible.

“And to everyone we’ve worked with over the years – in the office, the warehouse, and on the road – thank you for the hard work, the dedication, and yes… even the stress that came with it!

“This is a sad moment and a lot to process, but I’ll always be grateful for the experiences, the friendships, and the lessons learned over the past 13 years.

“As this door closes I’ll also be looking for my next opportunity in the coming weeks – excited to see where this journey takes me next.”
