Bradford-based logistics firm Expect Distribution has made two senior appointments as part of its growth agenda
Jack Boldy (pictured left) is the company’s new head of distribution, while Dan Wignall (right) has become its head of contract logistics.
Boldy was previously the organisation’s transport development manager, while Wignall has stepped up from the role of contracts manager.
In his new post, Boldy will be responsible for Expect’s general distribution operations.
His duties now include overseeing continuous improvement drives in the company’s delivery, collection and compliance performance.
He is also charged with maximising service levels, including providing operational efficiencies to all customers.
These already benefit from the business’s bespoke transport management system, which provides them with full traceability of consignments, including real-time updates.
In his new role, Wignall will now oversee Expect’s service offering larger volume customers bespoke outsourced management and operation of their fleet or warehousing for fixed terms, typically three to five years.
Each Expect contract logistics customer receives a dedicated service manager, allocated vehicles and drivers, plus has deliveries made under their own logo.
Expect says this service saves customers money, as well as increasing the time and energy they can devote to boosting sales.
Commenting on the appointments, Andy Taylor, Expect Distribution operations director, said: “Our colleagues are key to us achieving our mission statement - we’re committed to being the best in our industry.
“We’re therefore passionate about investing in, and developing, our people and I’m delighted to recognise the performance and potential of Jack and Dan by promoting them to their new roles.
“They exemplify our values of hard work, dedication and a customer-centric approach that builds lasting business relationships. We’re confident their leadership will contribute significantly to our continued growth in the future.
“Life in our industry is fast-paced and never stands still, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact both will have for our customers, our colleagues and our business.”
Boldy entered the logistics industry in 2013, when he became network service co-ordinator with United Pallet Network, based in Lichfield, Staffordshire, where he stayed two years.
He then spent nine years with Leeds-based VLT Logistics in transport-focused roles, as planner, team leader and manager, before joining Expect in his previous post last July.
Wignall worked initially for nine years in food retailing before joining Expect in 2021. He has specialised in the contracts field ever since, occupying posts such as co-ordinator and supervisor before assuming his last role in April 2024.
Founded in 1988, Expect now employs more than 430 people and has a fleet of over 130 vehicles. In addition to contract logistics, the company’s services include warehousing, UK-wide palletised distribution to business premises and homes, consolidation for giant online retailer Amazon and a specialist offering for the pharmaceutical industry.
Expect warehouses a wide variety of goods, from food and drink to building supplies, using 530,000sq ft of storage space with room for 70,000 pallets.
The company’s distribution service, which sees it collect and deliver 500,000 pallets annually, features national timed next day and economy 48-hour delivery options.
The organisation’s scope is extended through being the largest member of Palletline, the UK’s first and leading network of hauliers delivering palletised freight, which it helped to found in 1992. Palletline now has over 90 member companies, running 5,000 vehicles, and boasts seven cross-dock hubs.
Expect is also an Amazon preferred carrier, delivering to all that organisation’s UK fulfilment centres.
As one of the retailer’s only two consolidation partners in the country, the company speeds up the delivery process to these sites, greatly reducing the risk of businesses selling to Amazon incurring financial penalties.
