Parcel delivery company Evri has relocated its Tyneside depot to a larger site, just four miles from its original location, as part of a nationwide drive to grow its parcel volumes.

Evri’s Tyneside depot has been operating for more than 20 years and is pivotal to its operation in the North East. The depot processes thousands of parcels every day and employs more than 140 local people.

As part of the move, Evri will be consolidating both its original site and its pop-up site into one large unit which has been refurbished. As part of the refurbishment, eight new state-of-the-art docking areas have been added to ensure rapid processing of parcels.

The new Tyneside depot, which spans 149,000sq ft is approximately twice the size of the original site, which Evri said ”reflects the remarkable growth within the business”.

The upgraded depot is now equipped to handle an 50,000 additional parcels per day, bringing the total capacity to 200,000 per day, to help meet increasing demand.

Evri has signed a lease for the site, which spans more than ten years.

All existing workers have moved to the new site and Evri said it expects to create new jobs at the site this year.

Gary Chalk, Evri head of depots (North), said: “We are very excited to be moving into our new depot. We’ve got a great team here – some have worked here for decades – and provide a great service to the local community.

”We are very grateful all the team have moved with us - a big thank you to everyone who has helped make this happen.”

Evri delivers over 720 million parcels a year. The company employs over 8,000 staff, more than 20,000 couriers and operates a nationwide network of hubs and depots.
