Evri has agreed a pay deal with the GMB union for its self-employed couriers that is above the national minimum wage and provides enhanced benefits.
The delivery company said it was the first-ever two-year agreement in its history and delivered a range of improvements, including increased minimum earnings, enhanced holiday entitlement and new commitments to review the courier pay and expenses model.
The deal includes a guaranteed minimum equivalent hourly rate of £15 nationally and £15.80 in London; enhanced protection of existing earnings and rates through to April 2028 for eligible couriers; improved holiday benefits; one-off payments linked to the agreement of up to £1,250 and more opportunities for couriers to join its Evri Plus programme.
Evri said the agreement followed extensive discussions with the union and represented a significant multi-million-pound investment in courier pay and benefits.
In June, 6,000 couriers voted on a previous deal, which the GMB said 97% rejected. This agreement came as the company prepares to recruit a further 7,000 self-employed couriers ahead of peak trading and to support the growth of its parcel network.
An Evri spokesperson said: “This agreement reflects a shared commitment to protecting and improving courier earnings while delivering greater certainty through the first two-year deal in our history.
“We are proud to have reached a deal that delivers increased earnings opportunities, enhanced benefits, and strengthened earnings protections.
“Community couriers play a vital role in our success, and we believe this offer represents a fair, competitive and sustainable package that recognises their contribution while supporting the continued growth of our business.”
Nicola Savage, GMB national officer, added: “We have secured a strong and significant deal that not only provides earnings well above the national minimum wage equivalent but also protects existing earnings – and creates opportunities for future growth.
“This agreement is an important milestone and shows what can be achieved through meaningful dialogue and collective bargaining.
“Evri should be congratulated for listening and engaging with couriers and GMB reps throughout the process.”
