Glass haulier Offergeld Logistik UK has added 10 Euro-5 Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units to its fleet on a contract hire deal from Ryder.
The Goole-based firm will use the new tractor units in conjunction with its own fleet of Inloader glass trailers, which it operates to undertake nationwide and international deliveries on contract for a major glass manufacturer.
“We founded the company just 10 years ago, so we are still a relatively young and expanding organisation,” said Phil Ellis, Offergeld’s general manager. “We previously purchased our trucks, but as they aged we faced the problem of increasing repair costs, however we were wary of incurring the cost of purchasing new trucks.
He added that following a two-year period of renting trucks from Ryder, Offergeld opted for contract hire as the most cost-effective model for its operation. They picked the Actros for its fuel efficiency and because it was the top choice with the firm’s drivers.
The company also worked with Ryder to maximise payload, by including weight-saving options such as aluminium wheels and fuel tanks to reduce unladen weight.
Phil Ashton, Ryder head of area sales north, said: “Overall, an increasing number of companies are now realising that contract hire not only provides the latest specification environmentally-friendly vehicles, but that it also provides peace of mind when it comes to maintenance.”
